Hi everyone!
Now, I wanted to touch upon the issue of over-keenness in dating and other forms of desperation. Yes, I am guilty as charged, as I think most people are, but it's a mistake you surely learn from and I mistake I have no intention of ever making again. Perhaps I have made this mistake too many times already, but I am so repulsed by over-keenness in the opposite sex that I will vow now and forever to NEVER be openly keen on anyone EVER again. I will also NEVER be desperate again. And I mean that. NEVER!
'Wrong way go back' boy was the victim of his own overly keen attitude akin to desperation. The thing is, if either the guy or the girl are too keen, the relationship is never going to work anyway. Not that I can comment on working relationships, as my friend said to me yesterday 'NONE of your relationships have worked and therefore, you can't really talk about what works!' Well, au contraire. I've had meaningful long-lasting relationships. And I know how those actually lasted. And I know how they start.
My first long-term relationship was no less than magical for two of the four years it lasted, but while I had the hots for him, that spark didn't cause me to make it so obvious that I was openly drooling over him on the first date. In all honesty, I actually stood him up. I was at Southland with my friends and he was meeting me there. I love my friends and don't generally enjoy ditching them. So I ditched the stranger instead and didn't show! He obviously loved this aloofness. That I was independent and didn't need a male to be happy. And I still believe this to be so important. NEVER change who you are for ANYONE. OK, so back to the keenness displays- they don't work. Aloof is best. I'm not talking 'treat-em-mean keep-em-keen' because sometimes that goes too far. But DON'T BE KEEN! I think that I am worth more than that, and YOU ARE TOO!
Anyway, the overly keen. The time I chased the guy around the boat when I was drunk proclaiming that I loved him..... Now THAT was over-keenness and desperation. The time I had a date with one of the subjects that have been previously mentioned on here somewhere, only to continue chatting with the guy overly keenly afterwards, telling him what a fabulous time I had had and how great I thought he was and how jittery I was feeling and how soon I wanted to see him again. It was very stupid. And the only reason I was doing it was the same reason I chased the guy around the boat. BECAUSE I HADN'T HAD ANY MALE ACTION IN TOO LONG. So, I conclude that THAT is why men do this too.
Desperation is NEVER sexy. Guys, trying to get back your ex-girlfriend is never sexy. (Girls, giving in to the guy and granting a pity date (or two or three) is NOT sexy. But, alas, I am guilty. I did this a few times because there was no action anywhere else. I think this is the definition of desperation. DESPERATION! UGH! Never again though. NEVER AGAIN!) By the same token, trying to get back your ex-boyfriend so that your friend will give you $50 is not sexy. It's stupid. You don't need to put your dignity on the line to be a money whore. Even if you do need the money for a fabulous jacket you have been eyeing off and even if the only other guy option around at the time is the guy that you keep dumping and have been on pity dates with. That particular ex-boyfriend may have had a nice car Soleil, but he didn't have a brain. Honestly, when I tried to woo him back, with flowers and poems and other assorted shit that I would have called OTT if the shoe was on the other foot, I was being nothing more than an idiot. And while the jacket might have seemed like the sole motivation, it wasn't. Desperation was actually at play, because I didn't want to get back with the guy that I had already dumped three times before.
The lesson to be learnt is to keep desperation in check. I don't like desperate guys and they don't like it when I act desperate. And around about now I need to focus on this. Soleil, you haven't had an official relationship in a full twelve months. This is unusual for you. It doesn't mean you are not hot. It doesn't mean that you should settle.
